CARUSO'S PERPETUAL MOTION MACHINE

1977
20' x 16"
Etching

Caruso was my favorite parakeet when I was in college in Carbondale, Illinois. Later on he moved with me to St Louis and then Columbia, Missouri. A great singer, he was murdered in a senseless act of low-brow crime by a neighbor-friends stray cat one horrible day, along with three of his four mates.
In the etching, Caruso is the center star of a
"Rube Goldberg'esque" fantasy machine of the artists imagination.

Ink, with scientifically fantastic sections of the U.S. Commerce Dept. letter collaged on the matboard
5 ½" H x 8" W

BLEECHY FURBALLS vs. MELODIOUS BUDGIES

1989-90
Originally drawn for a design for a postcard, the ink drawing with some collage

was inspired by a letter sent to the artist in response to a letter he sent inquiring about a patent for a new animal the office had recently approved. The letter, about 6 pages of total scientific gobbledygook, was entirely unintelligible. Out came the scissors, followed by pen & ink. This was the original drawing for the artists homemade postcard, described by a cat-owning Seattle Public Library Science & Medical librarian as "the greatest postcard the artist ever made."

Excellent condition, unframed.

$200.

TEN STUDIES OF MERLIN, D.A.
(Dental Assistant, Plenipotentiary, and Most Fowl)

1991 (?)
Merlin was my former dentists African Gray parrot, which she brought to work regularly. Merlin was a heck of a model - he moved his head this way & that, like mad. Drove me meshugah! (that's Yiddish for crazy).

Note:
Website viewer Ceice Cooney-Wickett sends this note via e-mail on December 19, 2003:

"This bird is quite obviously an Amazon Parrot, not an African Grey, not only a different species and genus but from a completely different CONTINENT."

Thanks, Ceice. The local D.A. will check into this allegation.  You have the right to an attorney...anything you say can be used against you in a court of law - ornithological or beyond.

META-IPA-WHOOPA-GOOFA-PELICANA (BUT FRIEND'S SAY IT'S A HERON, NOT A PELICAN, OOPSA-GOOFSA)

1996-2004
Ink, gouache, colored pencil, with six British postage stamps of Her Majesty the Queen, and one U.S. postage stamp of Puerto Rican governor Luis Munoz Marin.
22 1/8" H x 18 1/8" W

The inspiration for the IPA rowboat came from a bottle of beer I brought back from Brighton, England in January 2004: Indian Pale Ale manufactured in Scotland, with a great label on the bottle. The artwork went through a dramatic Meta-Phoric change of ownership and revitalized change of imagery after the longtime art owner deacessioned the work from her home art collection.

The new owners - Washington state natives who  lived in Puerto Rico for about 27 years - were happy to have it and enjoy seeing the Puerto Rican flag on the boat. Viva!
