MY DESK

1986.

In 1986 I was given a 1950's- era solid wooden desk from Heidi Drucker in Seattle. It had belonged to her brother Elliott when he was a boy. It was completely indistinguishable, save for holes in it where he used to hammer nails into it. In winter-spring '86, I sanded the entire thing down - it had thick coats of black paint on it, and I spent a year artifying it. Here are two photos of the desk as it looked in 1987. It was exhibited at the Seattle Children's Festival, and again at the Seattle Center in an invitational exhibit of Artists Made Furniture, both in the late 1980's.
