Aerogels have the lightest weight of any known solid material, with a density only about three times that of air. They can protect virtually anything from heat or cold. This unique class of materials shows potential for use in a wide variety of applications, ranging from space vehicles to super-insulating windows to ultra-high speed computers to toothpaste to surfboards.
The Aerogel Home Page is a starting point for obtaining information about aerogels, with an introductory FAQ and a Directory of resources on the Web.
